[52 Rolls] Roll 4 – Beach Pictures and Broken Windows

This year began well, but quickly took a turn toward the frustration and illness. Between major illness in my extended family, and my own illness, which wasn’t serious but required lots of doctors appointments over the course of more than a month, I haven’t been able to post here as much as I wanted. Fortunately, I have still been taking pictures. Now that I am feeling better, and other things are going more smoothly, I have to catch up with my developing, scanning and blogging.

This roll was taken early in the morning on a beach on Highway 1 north of Santa Cruz, CA. It was a gorgeous morning, and I was leaving the house early for once so I decided to bring along my Canon AE-1 and a roll of Ektar. The scenery was beautiful, and I thought it might be a nice change of pace from the problems of my year. Sadly, when I got back to the car I found that someone had broken my car window and stolen several things including my (almost) brand new camera bag! Fortunately there wasn’t much camera gear in it beyond a couple of rolls of unexposed film and my cable release, but they also got my house keys, checkbooks and a bunch of bills I meant to pay that day!

All in all, I think the pictures came out OK, I am still working on pulling colors out of Ektar in my scans the way I like them in other peoples. I definitely have a lot more luck with Portra, but sometimes I want 100 speed film.
